Select & Organize
Layers
Organise your design onto layers you can hide, lock, fade and reorder, and gather them into collections.
Steps
- Hide, lock or fade parts of your design. Touch and hold a layer for more.
- Tap Layers in the top toolbar to open the panel. On iPhone, choose Layers in the More menu (⋯).
- Tap a layer to make it the active layer — new shapes are added to it.
- Tap + to add a layer above the active one. The new layer becomes the active layer.
- Tap the eye to hide a layer, or the lock to keep it from changing. To fade a layer, touch and hold it and choose Opacity.
- Double-tap a layer to rename it. To reorder, touch and hold it, then drag it up or down. Drop it on a collection to put it inside.
- In a layer's menu, Select Objects selects its shapes, Show In Drawing zooms to them, and Move Objects Here moves your selection onto the layer.
- Show Items lists a layer's shapes. Tap one to select it, or touch and hold it for Show In Drawing and, on a group, Edit Group.
- To put a layer in a new collection, touch and hold it and choose New Collection. Tap a collection to open or close it.
- A collection's eye and lock hide or lock everything inside. To fade every layer in it, touch and hold the collection and choose Opacity.
- Delete asks first, then removes a layer with its shapes, or a collection with everything in it. The Default layer always stays.
- Tap the panel's title to switch between Layers and Sketch Planes.
- Press ⌘I to open or close the Layers panel.
- Press ⇧⌘N to add a layer above the active one.
- Press ⇧⌘H to hide or show the active layer, and ⌥⌘L to lock or unlock it.
- Double-click a layer to rename it, or right-click it for its menu.
- To reorder, click and hold a layer, then drag it up or down.
