No class link from your teacher? Apply as a student

A class link gives 12 months from the day you claim it. A seat on a school’s license lasts as long as the license.

  1. Get the link

It comes from your teacher or school. Without one there’s nothing to claim, so ask them for it.

  2. Sign in with your uMake account

Open the link and sign in with the account you use in the app: Apple, Google or email.

  3. Claim or join, then open uMake

Tap the button and you’re all set: open uMake with the same account, and the Education plan is there.

Why uMake in class

From first sketch to final crit.

What students do in uMake, from the first lesson to the review at the end of term.

Sketch to 3D

From a stroke to a solid.

Students sketch with Apple Pencil or their fingers, then lift the lines into precise curves, surfaces and solids they can orbit in 3D.

  • Apple Pencil is optional: fingers work on iPad and iPhone
  • Real units, from millimeters to feet

Spaces

Pin it up for the crit.

A Space is an infinite board for sketches, notes, photos and live 3D models. Gather a whole project in one place, then bring it to the pin-up.

  • Sketch over everything with Apple Pencil or a finger
  • Layers to compare options or trace over a plan
  • Export the board as an image

  • AR on a real table

View in AR puts a model at real size on a desk or a wall, on iPhone and iPad.

  • Ready for the 3D printer

Export STL or OBJ and open it in your slicer: uMake labels both for 3D printing.

  • iPad, iPhone and Mac

One app on iPad, iPhone and a Mac with Apple silicon. A free account backs up designs and syncs them.

  • In 14 languages

uMake speaks 14 languages, among them Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Chinese.

A class story

Year 9, in 3D.

Pupils found it incredibly easy to create sketches and then to rapidly change them into 3D models.

When the British School of Paris gave every pupil an iPad, Keith Peary used uMake to teach 3D design to Year 9 pupils, aged 13, working with just their fingers.

They started from a cube, copied it in three planes to build block characters, then moved on to layers, revolve, array and spline. Pupils exported STL files to 3D print their models, from shoes to buildings and submarines.

Questions

Questions about uMake for Education.

What teachers, schools and students ask before they start.

Something else? Write to hello@umake.com

  1. Which account should students use?

The one they use in the uMake app. They open the link from their teacher or school and sign in with that account (Apple, Google or email), and the Education plan is on it. The account needs a verified email address; Apple and Google accounts count as verified.

  2. What happens after 12 months?

A student’s Education plan ends; nothing renews and nothing is charged. In its last 30 days they can claim again with next year’s link from their teacher, and the new year starts when the current one ends. Schools can renew a license in its last 90 days, or after it ends: members stay, and the join link keeps working.

  3. My teacher hasn’t shared a class link. Can I still get it?

Yes: apply as a student. Tell us where you study and give your school email, and if you’re eligible we’ll email a class link there. Open it and sign in with your uMake account. If your teacher wants it for the whole class, they can buy licenses and share one join link.

  4. Is AI included?

No. The Education plan has no monthly AI allowance, and Live AI Preview isn’t part of it. Students can buy AI credit packs in the app to use the AI tools.

  5. Who can buy licenses?

Schools, colleges and universities, for their students and staff to use in teaching and learning. A teacher, a department or the school can buy them. Licenses aren’t for companies or studios, even for training: uMake Teams is. uMake may end a license that’s bought or used otherwise (Terms of Use). At checkout you confirm an email address at the school with a code we send to it; personal and alumni addresses can’t be used. No school email? Talk to us.

  6. What if we need more than 5,000 seats?

Each license covers 20 to 5,000 seats. For more than that, talk to us.

  7. Can we pay by invoice or purchase order?

Licenses are paid by card, on a secure Stripe page. If your school needs an invoice or a purchase order, talk to us.

  8. Can teachers create class codes?

No. uMake makes class codes for partner classes. A license comes with its own join link instead, which you share with your class and can replace whenever you need to. Interested in a class link? Talk to us.

  9. Can we add seats during the year?

Buy another license for the extra seats. Each license has its own join link and runs for its own 12 months.

  10. Who sees students’ names and emails?

The person who manages the license sees each member’s name, email address and the date they joined. Students are told this before they join.

  11. Does the Education plan cancel an App Store subscription?

No. A student who already pays for uMake through the App Store should cancel that subscription in Settings, or they’ll be billed for both.
